How Web Based Email Works?

Although the basic E Mail Service was there from the late 7o's, it became very popular by the introduction of Web based E Mail service like gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc. The reason is very simple, the web based E mail made the Email access very simple.. Before that we need to configure every related E Mail settings by our self to access the E Mail account which a normal guy may not be able to do it correctly in spite of all the correct instructions given in the Manuel.

The traditional E Mail works like this..

Internet User-->Configure E Mail Settings in Client computer-->Enter User Name and Password-->Access E Mail Server-->Send Receive E Mail.

The Web Based E Mail Works like the one below

Internet User-->Access the E Mail Web site though browser and Enter User Name and Password-->Send Receive E Mail.

From the above flow it is clear that user don't need to know about the E Mail settings and other related information which will definitely be a great relief for a normal user.

In fact when we access the Web based E Mail the basic background work flow is as given below..

E Mail Authentication

Internet User-->Access the E Mail Web site though browser and Enter User Name and Password-->Contacting the E Mail Server-->Check the user name and password-->Return the authentication results-->Displaying the results to the user in the Web Page..

Sending an E Mail

Internet User-->Basic user E Mail page-->Send E Mail from Web Page-->Contacting SMTP Mail Server-->Send the E Mail on the behalves of Web based E Mail-->Return the response-->Displaying the E Mail Sending status to the Web Page.

Receiving an E Mail

Internet User-->Basic user E Mail page-->Receive Mail from Web Page-->Contacting POP3 E Mail Server-->Receive the E Mail on the behalves of Web based E Mail Page-->Return the response-->Displaying the Received E Mail and display on the Web Page.

Hope the basic idea of How Web Based E Mail Works is clear...
